【摘要】:Themeasurementofmercaptansinnaturalgasisimportant,becausemercaptansareoftenaddedasodorantstonaturalgastoprovideawarningproperty.Theodorprovidedbythemercaptanservestowarnconsumers(forexample,residentialuse)ofnaturalgasleaksatlevelsthatarewellbelowtheflammableorsuffocatingconcentrationlevelsofnaturalgasinair.Fielddeterminationsofmercaptansinnaturalgasareimportantbecauseofthetendencyofthemercaptanconcentrationtofadeovertime.Thistestmethodprovidesinexpensivefieldscreeningofmercaptans.Thesystemdesignissuchthatitmaybeusedbynontechnicalpersonnel,withaminimumofpropertraining.1.1Thistestmethodcoversarapidandsimplefielddeterminationofmercaptansinnaturalgaspipelines.Availabledetectortubesprovideatotalmeasuringrangeof0.5to160ppmbyvolumeofmercaptans,althoughthemajorityofapplicationswillbeonthelowerendofthisrange(thatis,under20ppm).Besidestotalmercaptans,detectortubesarealsoavailableformethylmercaptan(0.5to100ppm),ethylmercaptan(0.5to120ppm),andbutylmercaptan(0.5to30mg/M179;or0.1to8ppm).Note18212;Certaindetectortubesarecalibratedintermsofmilligramspercubicmetre(mg/M179;)insteadofpartspermillionbyvolume.Theconversionisasfollowsfor25176;C(77176;F)and760mmHg.Equation1-mg/M179;=ppmXmolecularweight/24.451.2Detectortubesareusuallysubjecttointerferencesfromgasesandvaporsotherthanthetargetsubstance.Suchinterferencesmayvaryamongbrandsbecauseoftheuseofdifferentdetectionprinciples.Manydetectortubeswillhaveaprecleanselayerdesignedtoremoveinterferencesuptosomemaximumlevel.Consultmanufacturer''sinstructionsforspecificinterferenceinformation.Hydrogensulfideandothermercaptansareusuallyinterferencesonmercaptandetectortubes.SeeSection5forinterferencesofvariousmethodsofdetection.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Forspecifichazardstatements,see7.3.
